Whitney once sang “the children are our future.” As we reflect on a year of changing politics, spotlights on school bullying, and the continual fight for LGBT rights, it seems those words were never more true than now.

PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation (PHYSF) understands this more than most. Our goal is to award scholarships to worthy Houston area LGBT students who demonstrate excellence, not only in their school work, but in their community involvement. Each year we interview students who are looking for ways to better their lives and the life of their community. When you meet these kids, hear their stories, and feel their passion for a better world, you want to support them anyway you can.

Your opportunity to help support the future is coming up on Friday, April 29th, 2011, at PHYSF’s annual Spring Fling Cocktail Party and Fundraiser. Please consider joining us, along with some of our student scholarship recipients, for an evening of mixing, mingling, inspiring words, entertainment, and a fabulous silent auction. We will once again take over the Long Lobby of the Alley Theatre and honor an important community supporter who will soon be announced.

Please consider giving what you can. An underwriter form is enclosed and all donations go toward the 2011-2012 scholarships. We hope to see you on April 29th!

Spring Fling - May 13, 2010

Spring Fling Cocktail Party and Fundraiser Benefiting PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation

At the 2010 Spring Fling, we honored past Scholarship Recipient and PHYSF Board Member Todd Amdor for his service to the LGBT community.

The PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation offers a scholarship program to assist worthy gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth in the Houston area in pursuing a college education. The scholarship program is for students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement while in high school or college.

In addition to helping provide for higher education, the Foundation hopes that our scholarship recipients will provide positive role models for other youth who cannot be open about their orientation, and encourages the scholarship recipients to volunteer their time with GLBT community groups
